Travis Kelce Reveals ‘Backyard Ball’ Secret Behind His Chemistry with Patrick Mahomes

Travis Kelce, Pro Bowl tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, recently appeared on “The SiriusXM Blitz” on SiriusXM NFL Radio with hosts Bruce Murray and Alex Smith.
During the interview, Kelce credited years of practice and repetition for developing the instinctive chemistry he shares with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He said Mahomes’ ability to improvise after a play breaks down is unlike anything he’s seen, adding that broken plays often become the offense’s biggest opportunities because defensive coverages begin to unravel.
Kelce described their approach as “backyard ball,” explaining that he looks for open space while trusting Mahomes to “throw you open” once he escapes the pocket.
